For Staff - HOW can we help you?

Cooperative Planning and Teaching

·        Together we can plan, implement and evaluate units of work across the curriculum which incorporate the Research Cycle or  Information Skills Process. Our aim is that students will do at least one of these units across the curriculum each year so that by their senior years they know how to undertake a research task. We find that the units are self paced and provide students with a tight structure for completing research tasks.

·        We can help to design units of work which cater to different learning styles and which use a variety of thinking skills. These are "resource based". They use our wonderful resources, both print and electronic.

·        We can simply show students how to find the resources they need for a particular research task, with the aid of a Data Projector.

We can provide resources, book lists or hotlists of websites on a particular topic and upload these into your AUC class code.

Working with teachers to develop, implement and evaluate these units of work across the curriculum 3-12 is the most important (and enjoyable!) work that we do. Please, never hesitate to involve the library staff in assignment work.

Reading for Pleasure

The Literature Circles program is offered to all Primary classes and all Secondary English classes 7-9 Year (10 optional). The program runs best as a block over two weeks, but we are able to vary it according to your needs.

About four or five books are promoted to the class and students choose one of those to read. They are put into a group with others who have chosen to read the same book. Most of the reading is done at home, but there are opportunities to read in class.

The librarian takes each group in turn for discussion and all students record their reactions to the book for ten minutes at the end of the session. The program therefore involves reading, writing, listening and speaking.

We like to have at least two weeks notice so we can prepare the sessions thoroughly. Some teachers book ahead for the whole year.
